About Us

Our focus

One Coat Painting is a residential paint contractor specializing in interior painting in Highlands Ranch, Littleton, Lone Tree, Castle Rock, and Parker (we do travel outside these areas, but they are our focus...for now).  There are a lot of painters out there, and most will paint anything that doesn't move.  The problem is, sometimes they even paint the dog.  One Coat is a little different.

This is what we paint:

Walls

  • Ceilings
  • Baseboard
  • Doors
  • Misc. trim
For clarification, here is a list of things we DO NOT paint:
  • Exteriors
  • Cabinets
  • Floors
  • Small children or animals of any kind

History

Nick, the owner, decided after being in the painting business for more than 10 years that 80% of all the work he looked at and then performed had to do with just the walls and ceilings.  Knowing that systems are everything, he knew that if he focused on that 80%, he could do it faster, better, and more efficient than anyone else.  Along with this, he really wanted to harness the power of the web to enable customers to not only price out their own project, but to see first hand what everything cost...nothing hidden.

This isn't the beginning of the story however.  We've been around for a long time in Highlands Ranch, painting everything and anything.  Nick started in 1998 first at University Pro Painters, the company he started in college, and ran every summer on break in the suburbs of Chicago.  Then, after a season, he realized that the high-end residential market was where the money would be, so he started to focus on residential interior painting for the more affluent.  With an upbringing of going to the country club, he knew it wouldn't be hard to relate to his customers.  In 1999, Nick incorporated as Walls by Design, Inc, which is the parent company for One Coat Painting today.  It is here that Nick truly learned about painting interiors, and servicing customers.

When the market turned in 2008, Nick knew that he had to do something to be more competitive, and to offer a service that would appeal to the masses.  Faux finishing was now just a luxury that most people just could not afford.  Out of this realization, One Coat Painting was born.
